main/wantsum.jpg Beer of the Festival is announced
6th February 2010

Congratulations to James Sandy, owner and head brewer of the Wantsum Brewery, for winning Beer of the Festival at the 2010 White Cliffs Festival of Winter Ales, The beer, Wantsum Hengist, which was launched at the festival, is a smooth, golden coloured pale ale with flavours of biscuit, malt and a rich fruity nose.

The Wantsum Brewery has only been brewing since October last year which makes winning the award more astonishing.

James, who helped out at the festival, was surprised but rightly proud of the award.

Second place was won by Thornbridge's Jaipur IPA, last year's winner, with third place being taken by Wantsum's second beer: Portly Pig.

main/berry.png The Berry, Walmer is Branch Pub of the Year 2009
16th June 2009

Even in these days of recession and gloom there is always some good news to report, and today is no exception.

The Berry, Walmer, has been voted Deal, Dover, Sandwich and District Branch Pub of the Year for the second year in succession. The award reflects the hard work that Chris Barnes, the landlord, has put in since taking over The Berry: the quality of his real ales and his efforts in promoting real ale and real cider.

We also take this opportunity to praise the other pubs that were nominated for this award (in alphabetical order): Crown Inn, Finglesham; Louis Armstrong, Dover; Ship, Deal; White Horse, Dover. The fact that they were nominated reflects highly on the consistently high-quality of real ale they serve.
